Examination & Certification

Do you need reproducible and traceable results, from the material to the finished product? We can reliably prove the various quality characteristics of your products through a wide range of in-house tests. The values achieved are fully traceable through test protocols and various certifications. With our proofs, your products are tested for the respective application, guaranteed.

Measurement with the 3D coordinate measuring machine

In vacuum technology, precisely manufactured components are a basic requirement for efficient processes and successful applications. We determine the geometric properties of your components and compare them with the required specifications. Our 3D coordinate measuring machine works with high precision with a maximum length measurement deviation of 1.6 μm + measuring length [mm] / 333 and a probing deviation of 1.7 μm. We use optical as well as tactile measurement with active or passive scanning sensors. Components with dimensions up to 900 x 1.400 x 800 mm (34.43 x 55.12 x 31.50 in) can be measured.

Analysis of the material composition

The composition of metal alloys significantly determines the targeted material processing, the application-oriented use of the end products, in particular their quality and service life in use. For this purpose, we can analyze your metallic materials with a metal analyzer based on arc and spark excitation. This allows us to determine all the necessary elements - including traces of C, P, S and N. Predefined calibration modules are used for common alloys based on Fe, Al, Cu, Ni, Co, Ti, Mg, Zn, Sn and Pb. Further of these modules are available for austenitic stainless steel as well as for Al and Cu alloys. On this standardized basis, we analyze your materials for you, comprehensively, reproducibly and precisely.

Permeability determination of paramagnetic materials

The permeability of a material to magnetic fields can influence processes and results. Sensitive processes and measurements in vacuum can thus be distorted or become imprecise by magnetic fields. For these considerations we offer the possibility to measure the paramagnetic permeability of the materials of your components. The magnetic permeability μ is the product of the magnetic field constant μ0 and the permeability number µr. With our Först probe we determine the permeability or magnetic conductivity of your material. The measuring range for para- or ferromagnetic materials extends from μr = 1.001 to 1.999 with a resolution of 0.001. Measurements are possible at our premises or at your site.

Hardness measurement

Statements about the strength properties and yield strengths of materials can be derived from the material hardness. These findings are decisive for the manufacturing processing and ultimately for the functionality of components made of these materials. With our mobile optical hardness tester, we measure the surface hardness according to Vickers, also at your site, and evaluate it immediately. Regardless of material and geometry, we can test metal, plastic and ceramic as well as thick- and thin-walled components. These measurement results provide you with important information on the condition of the material and enable you to better assess the plastic deformability and thus the suitability of the material for your specific application.

Measurement of surface roughness

The surface roughness of components plays an important role in vacuum technology. UHV and XHV applications in particular require low roughness values of the vacuum-side component surfaces. Low values stand for small surface area on a macroscopic level. And the lower the surfaces, the more the outgassing rate of the same material in the vacuum is reduced. This reduces the residual gas contributions in vacuum processes, which in turn allows lower pressures and more accurate measurements. Surface roughness is also important for functional surfaces such as cutting edges, which are intended to realize a reliable vacuum-compatible seal. Different roughness values are achieved in manufacturing, which is why they are measured continuously in the manufacturing process as well as on the final product. Our mechanical probing device, which can also be used as a mobile device, measures roughness e.g. according to DIN EN ISO 4287:1998 (center roughness value). It measures with accuracy class 1 for skid measurements with a maximum deviation of 1%. The measurement can be realized quickly and is documented with a possible resolution of 0.001 µm.

Optical measurements - Measuring the insertion loss of optical fiber cables

Due to the principle, there are unavoidable losses at every detachable plug-in connection of optical fibre cables. These losses can be determined by the precision of the alignment of the respective fiber end faces as well as the quality of the fiber end face polishing. We measure the quality of your connector assembly for optical fiber feedthroughs. We determine the insertion loss (losses of the feedthrough) according to the standard for different fibres, all common connector types and test wavelengths.
