History of VACOM

Family and company are one.

This is who we are — the family business

Continuous growth through long-lasting, reliable cooperation with our customers worldwide is what sets us apart. Respect and appreciation in dealing at eye level are the basis of our actions. Continuity in improving working conditions contributes to implementing the holistic approach of reconciling work and family. Research & development, innovative thinking and a targeted willingness to invest ensure our entrepreneurial success for the future.

1992 - Foundation of VACOM

The first milestone was set by the Jena physicist Dr. Ute Bergner in 1992 with the foundation of VACOM in the university town of Jena, in green Thuringia. With two employees, VACOM initially started out as a small family business in the vacuum technology market. The core business was trading in products for vacuum applications. Just one year later, the company started training. From the very beginning, there has been a close connection to a wide variety of scientific institutions and high-tech companies settling in the city and the region.

2000 - Start of in-house production

With its establishment on the market, VACOM began to manufacture standard vacuum technology products itself. The growing demand for individual and innovative solutions led to the establishment of our own manufacturing, research and development capacities at the Gabelsbergerstraße 9 location in Jena.

2007 - First production building in Großlöbichau

The construction of our first own production building in Großlöbichau marked the start of component manufacturing in 2007 there. The cube-shaped architectural design is reminiscent of a vacuum chamber with its openings and connections. In addition to an area for turning and milling, welding and assembly, the building had an ultrasonic washing and electropolishing facility as well as a larger clean room with equipment for cleanliness testing.

2009 - VACOM's Research and Development Department

We have made it our mission to offer our customers quality and innovation. For this reason, the research and development department was created in 2009. Here, our experts search for and develop solutions to advance your processes. They include technicians, engineers and scientists from a wide range of disciplines. Today research and developement staff accounted for about 10 per cent of all VACOM employees.

2011 - Production and Technology Centre

Only two years later, the neighbouring 5000m2 production and technology centre was put into operation.  This includes the turning and milling centres for mechanical precision manufacturing, areas for welding technology, surface treatment and quality assurance. After only a short time, it became apparent that the capacities were not sufficient to cope with the rapidly increasing customer enquiries and orders.

2014 - Opening of VACOM's own day care centre/kindergarden

Another milestone was set with the construction of the company's own day care centre, kindergarden. Childcare for our employees makes it possible to combine work and family. Qualified educators implement an educational concept that brings children into contact with knowledge about technology and business in a playful way. The KiTa also offers childcare for up to 12-year-old employees' children during holiday periods.

2019 - Inauguration of the production and manufacturing hall

The flat new building in the eastern part of the company premises in the slightly hilly valley is clearly visible. It houses the production preparation and manufacturing, for which the space in the "old" production and technology centre was no longer sufficient. The building impresses with its "green" production with trees and hanging plants inside and photovoltaics on the roof. It underlines the company's philosophy of sustainability.

2020 - Expansion of VACOM's own clean room

With the expansion of VACOM's own clean room facilities with clean rooms covering more than 2,000 sqm, we are raising component cleanliness to a new level. With the new fine, ultrafine and ultra-fine cleaning systems as well as dry cleaning systems, we guarantee reproducible quality for the highest specifications through our Purity Classes and Vacuum Classes. This goes hand in hand with the introduction of high-performance intralogistics that link production and cleaning and, among other things, enable parts tracking in real time.

The future

Under the leadership of Jens Bergner, VACOM is today one of the leading European suppliers of vacuum technology. With our VACOM cleanFAB® process chain, we offer cleaning results that give users in many high-tech industries guarantees for the best production results. With branches in Sint-Job-in-'t-Goor in Antwerpen (Belgium), Naples in Florida and Reno in Nevada (USA), we are close to our customers. We are constantly developing the company so that we can offer you first-class solutions for your applications in the future. We are one of the first companies to focus on smart manufacturing in the sense of Industry 4.0.
