LN2 Cooling Traps

LN2 cooling traps are made of stainless steel. They are used in high and ultra-high vacuum systems to achieve targeted condensation on cooled surfaces. This prevents the backflow of operating fluid vapors due to condensation. This not only extends the life of the pumps used, but also produces a cleaner vacuum. Water, solvent and oil vapors, propellants and gases with boiling temperatures above 77 K (e.g. CO2) condense on the cooling surfaces. For this reason, they can also be used as cryogenic pumps to a limited extent.
The traps are equipped with KF or ISO flanges for mounting and draining the condensate. Depending on the application, you can choose between traps with two or three outlets, each in two versions.

Adsorption Traps

How do you create an oil-free vacuum with an oil-sealed backing pump? By using our adsorption traps. They prevent oil from flowing back from the fore-vacuum system into the chamber or high vacuum pump.
We offer both KF adsorption traps and MASS-VAC Inc. vacuum traps. The MASS-VAC Inc. traps are divided into single-stage and multi-stage versions. The same filter cartridges can be used for both types, only the filter size (4.5" or 9.5") has to be considered.

KF Adsorption Traps

KF adsorption traps made of stainless steel are used when an oil-free vacuum is to be generated with oil-sealed backing pumps. They are typically installed between the mechanical backing pump and the recipient. They prevent pump oil and water vapor from flowing back into the chamber, allowing a higher ultimate pressure to be achieved. Our adsorption traps are filled with granular zeolite. This binds the particles on its large surface area. The advantage of zeolite is that it can be regenerated several times at 300 °C thanks to the built-in heater. However, we recommend replacing it after repeated regeneration in order to ensure a consistent filtration result and to extend the maintenance intervals of the pump.

VISI-TRAP®: single-stage adsorption trap with plastic housing

The VISI-TRAP® vacuum trap consists of a transparent plastic housing with an external particle filter to protect pumps from corrosion and the vacuum from oil back diffusion from the pump. It is available in two sizes to accommodate a 4.5" or a 9.5" filter element.

A wide range of filter elements are available in both sizes, as well as a variety of connection adapters for individual applications. Filter elements for water, oil, corrosive chemicals, or ultra-fine particles are available and are always included with the VISI-TRAP® vacuum traps. The advantage is that you can see when the insert needs to be changed thanks to the transparent collection tray. Another advantage is the easy maintenance of the filter elements. The filter can be replaced without opening the vacuum system.

POSI-TRAP®: single-stage adsorption trap with stainless steel housing

The POSI-TRAP® vacuum trap consists of a stainless steel housing that is available in two sizes. Both versions are available with a 180° through flange or as a 90° version. The version with a 4" outer diameter can hold a 4.5" filter element and the 8" version can hold 4 filter elements. The filter elements are sealed at the inlet and outlet to completely filter the gas. The escaping gas flow is directed to the filter elements through the inlet opening. Unlike other vacuum traps, the filter elements of the POSI-TRAP® are sealed at both the inlet and outlet sides. This prevents blow-by and maintains a positive flow through the filter elements.

MULTI-TRAP®: multi-stage adsorption trap with stainless steel housing

The MULTI-TRAP® high performance multi-stage vacuum trap can be configured for a wide range of applications. It protects oil-sealed and dry-running pumps used in reactive processes (e.g. TEOS, NITRIDE, HTO, PLASMA). It filters corrosive and process particles that can contaminate the vacuum pump, reducing downtime and extending maintenance intervals. The three-stage design ensures nearly complete filtration of the flow at all times.
The first stage filters large, heavy particles and suspended solids as well as liquids by allowing them to settle on the large surface area of the housing. Stages two and three are equipped with filter elements that filter reactive chemicals and fine particles. A wide range of filter materials is available for a variety of applications.

Optional cooling stage:

For increased condensation, the MULTI-TRAP® can be equipped with a cooling coil. It is installed in the first stage of the trap and can be operated with different cooling systems (e.g. water, POLYCOLD). The gas stream is then forced through the cooling stage before reaching the second stage with the filter elements. This results in a higher separation efficiency for liquids and condensable gases. It also reduces the temperature of the remaining gas stream.

Models:

The MULTI-TRAP® is available in sizes 10", 12" and 16".

  • The 10" models MV-355040 and MV-355050 have two stages, each with five parallel 4.5" filter elements.
  • The 10" models MV-355040S and MV-355050S have only one stage with five parallel 9.5" filter elements.
  • The 12" models MV-355080 and MV-355100 have two stages, each with six parallel 4.5" filter elements.
  • The 12" models MV-355080S and MV-355100S have only one stage with six parallel 9.5" filter elements.
  • The 16" model MV-355160 has two stages, each with eight parallel 4.5" filter elements.
  • The 16" model MV-355160S has only one stage with eight parallel 9.5" filter elements.

The filter elements for the MULTI-TRAP® vacuum traps are not included and can be ordered as needed.

Oil Mist Eliminators

The oil mist filters from MASS-VAC Inc. are mounted on the exhaust of oil-sealed backing pumps to minimize the impact on the environment by filtering the escaping oil mist vapour. They are available in three versions depending on the pump size. All versions use the same filter element MV-360915, which is made of a micro glass fiber/resin composite material and retains particles from a size of 0.1 µm with a separation rate of 99.999%. Depending on the size of the oil mist filter, several filter elements may be required.

VISI-MIST®: Oil mist eliminator with transparent housing

The VISI-MIST® oil mist eliminator has a transparent plastic housing through which the level of separated oil can be checked without removing the filter from the vacuum system. Elbows and other adapters are available on request.

MIDI-MIST™: High-performance oil mist eliminator with stainless steel housing

The MIDI-MIST™ high performance oil mist eliminator is available as 4" version (MV-360300) and 8" version (MV-360200). It is generally used for pumps with a suction capacity greater than 40 m³/h (4") and up to 70 m³/h (8"). The 4" version offers space for one filter element and can be used for pumps with a DN25KF or DN40KF connection pipe. The 8" version offers space for three filter elements and can be used for pumps with a DN40KF connection pipe. In general, the diameter of the connection pipe should be at least half as large as the pump inlet connection.

Possible applications are for example systems with limited space, where the oil mist eliminator has to be mounted directly on the pump exhaust. It can also be used for applications with acetone or corrosive character. On the lower edge, MIDI-MIST™ has an oil drain mechanism for oil recirculation. It is also easy to disassemble and clean thanks to a quick-release fastener.

MAXI-MIST™: Ultra-high-performance oil mist eliminator with stainless steel housing

The MAXI-MIST™ ultra-high-performance oil mist eliminator can be used for pumps with a suction capacity of up to 300 m³/h, thanks to its five parallel filter elements. It has a DN50KF connection pipe, is equipped with an oil drain mechanism for oil recirculation and is easily disassemble & cleaned due to a quick-release fastener.
