Despite strong competition

Großlöbichau. Lukas Axtmann is Germany's best physics lab technician.

In summer 2023, he passed his IHK final examination with flying colours. The Thuringia Chamber of Industry and Commerce has already honoured him for this. An award at national level from the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Berlin is set to follow.

"The competition was fierce – even among my own colleagues – and the apprenticeship is one of the most demanding. That's why I'm looking forward to Berlin," says the 32-year-old.

After graduating from high school, Lukas Axtmann initially started studying physics and realised that it wasn't the best way for him. He started his apprenticeship at Vacom in August 2020. Testing new materials and new geometries for vacuum components, putting together measurement setups and determining physical parameters – Lukas Axtmann is getting more and more excited about his training as a physics laboratory technician at Vacom every week. "Compared to my vocational school colleagues, I definitely had the more exciting and varied practical weeks," says Axtmann looking back.

On 11 December 2023, Lukas Axtmann has been invited to the "National Award for the Best in IHK Professions" in Berlin. There he will be welcomed together with the 218 best examinees of the year 2023 in other IHK training occupations. His brother, who achieved the best qualification as a materials tester specialising in metal technology, will also be there.
